Doug and Kate | B&W Session

When we arrived at Susie and Don's house (Grandmommy and Granddaddy to the twins), we were like, "YES-this window is HUGE!!!" We had been wanting to do a window-lit black and white session of the twins for their birthday, and it turned out wonderfully! Another testament as to why we LOVE home sessions.

Highlights of the session: the huge caterpillar pillow, which made for a perfect posing tool, Doug showing us his belly-rubbing skills (haha), and Will and his moving background. lol.

AJ and Natalie's Engagement Session

Can not WAIT for this wedding!! This was the perfect engagement session: a totally natural location (a private ranch in Granbury), amazing light (which ALMOST didn't happen), and two people who were willing to completely open up and let us in to their relationship.

Natalie and AJ, thank you for bringing us in to your world! I hope that these are the best pictures you have ever taken in your entire life (to date)!

You can almost feel how much she loves him in this one.

NatalieA006.JPGI love that her cute yellow shoes match the flowers!NatalieA007.JPGThe wind was really working for us. :)NatalieA008.JPGThis was an adorable series of shots. We took these on this dock that was overlooking the lake. I liked the feel of this one the best.NatalieA009.JPGI love every single one of these, because it seems like every one is so THEM. Really had a hard time choosing for the blog! The natural prettiness of this one is what drew me in.NatalieA010.JPGHe completely adores her. Love it.NatalieA011.JPG

...And this is the part where I have to convince you that we did not hire models for this shoot! This one looks so "Ralph Lauren". They really pulled off the exact look I was going for.

NatalieA012.JPGThe prettiest of light in the next three.NatalieA013.JPG

NatalieA014.JPGOhMyGoodness, I want those shoes!NatalieA015.JPGAs with everything else that day, the sunset was PERFECT; a pink and blue sky that faded to orange and purple. Gorgeous. I love their expressions and body language in this one. So happy.NatalieA016.JPGYou guys look AWESOME!! Thank you for bringing us out to the ranch. I don't think you could have picked a better place.NatalieA017.JPG

Carolyn and Jerry at the Stockyards

Will and I have so much in common with Carolyn and Jerry. This engagement session felt more like a modeling shoot, and we felt very lucky to have such a gorgeous couple that looks so good together. I think it's their love that makes them so special :)Carolyn0001.JPGThey really let us in on their bond.Carolyn0002.JPGCuute!Carolyn0003.JPGLove the twinkly lights in the background. They match the twinkle in Carolyn's eyes.Carolyn0004.JPGIt is barefoot grass weather.Carolyn0005.JPGThey are really good at laughing at each other.Carolyn0006.JPGSee?Carolyn0007.JPGWe've been wanting to use this field behind the Stockyards for some tall grass pictures, and this was the perfect time to try it! These three below are similar, but I had a hard time choosing and really love them all. Now the only question is, which one should I use on our website? What do you think?Carolyn0008.JPGI love the way the vintage tones in this one bring out the maroon color of Carolyn's dress. Plus, her boots look really cute in this one.Carolyn0009.JPGMy obsession with tall grass has begun...Carolyn0010.JPGThey can even make looking into a mud puddle look good!Carolyn0011.JPGThis one is so pretty of them. I'm really jealous of Carolyn's hair. It was incredibly muggy that day, but her curls stayed in tact without frizzing. It must be a good hair day every day for her!Carolyn0012.JPGHe really loves her.Carolyn0013.JPGThis was taken after they took some pictures on the bull. After that, about four flower vendors came up to us to try to force them to buy flowers (for "free;" they must have seen Jerry pay the bull man). We were worried that we might possibly get shanked, so we scurried out of there. Hehe, j/k. The Stockyards are safe! There probably hasn't been a shanking in at least a couple of years.Carolyn0014.JPGSnuggles in a dark-yet-colorful alley.Carolyn0015.JPGLoved the yellow rails in this one. Carolyn and Jerry, you guys did an amazing job! You will soon be all over our website!Carolyn0016.JPG

Ellen and Richard's Wedding

Ellen and Richard were married at Ellen’s home in a gorgeous ceremony that could have been cut straight from the pages of  “In Style Weddings.” The genuine, welcoming feel of the intimate event was what really made their entire day memorable. Everyone there was someone special to the two as a couple. We definitely left with that warm fuzzy feeling! And the “I just got an AWESOME shot” feeling that makes me want to immediately load the pictures and pour over them the second I arrive home. In this case, that shot was the last image of this post, which I am convinced is the very essence of Ellen.EllenR0001.JPGDetails are my FAVORITE. Alyssa's Senior Session

I love that Alyssa is into fashion. She made me want to grab Will's credit card (hehe, j/k, it's mine too) and head over to Betsey Johnson to do some serious damage.

How is it that she shops at my favorite designer's store? AND has impeccable taste in shoes (and I LOVE shoes!)? Is it possible that we were separated at birth and that I am actually still eighteen?? Hey, I can dream, can't I? (It was a really hard half-birthday yesterday. And I'm about to be to the point where I can't say my age anymore. 26.)

So on to the gorgeousness that is Alyssa. This is just a sneak peek; there are soooo many good ones!

We had already finished her session, but the gray sky was calling me. So we went outside to the rooftop deck, where we got this. I have to say, her hair holds up pretty well in the rain!AlyssaS0006.JPG

Alyssa, thank you for choosing us as your senior portrait photographers! We can't wait to find out where life will take you this coming year. Lauren and Will

No WAY!

Heidi and Spencer ACTUALLY got married?!? For real, y'all. Haha. Proof here, at one of my favorite blogs: http://www.weddingchicks.com/ This pertains to wedding photography and the most notorious-couple-of-all-time that I love to hate, so I had to share.

Scroll down past the [aMAzing] Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses and [GLOrious] Christian Louboutin shoes to see the pictures (I was actually going to share the dresses in this post anyway, but the wedding pictures of Heidi and Spencer pretty much trumps anything). I can only hope that one day I'll get to photograph a fake celebrity couple's wedding...and that day will be all that I've ever dreamed of and more. I just know it.

Now, back down to earth, where the rest of us live. Here is an order that was just so pretty, I had to photograph it. I was sad to see it go, but now it resides at Graham's house, where it belongs. Goodbye, my beautiful, handcrafted, whitesnake session album with-amazing-little-borders and luciously thick pages that smell oh-so-new and leather fresh. Such a bittersweet farewell.

Trash the Prom Dress | Now Accepting TTPD Applications

Trash the Dress has been one of the craziest wedding photography trends in years, next to the spot color craze of '99. We've definitely had our fair share of dress trashing, but now we are ready to move on to PROM DRESS TRASHING!! Yeah!

We are now accepting applications for a Trash the Prom Dress shoot this May. The free session is going to be open to a high school junior or senior who has an awesome prom dress and would like to get some fashion images that are unlike any other senior portraits out there (after prom, of course!).

The session will be at the location of our choice, and will be awarded to the applicant with the coolest-to-photograph dress (super-cute shoes and accessories are also a plus). We'll require a picture of your dress to apply and you must be willing to let us use your images in press, advertising, and online.

Email info@avesphotographicdesign.com for details on what is expected of our applicants and what will be given to the chosen participant. Contest winner will be announced on May 11th. Tell your friends!

And now...a hilariously "antique" picture of me and Will at our high school prom. He's going to die when he sees that I posted this, after years of making fun of photographers who do the same thing. ;) Ah, well. Opinions change, right?
